October Brick-Wall Workshop

Date:
By Ms Cheryl Hebbs
Category: Irish

The Irish Group are returning to Unit4 at May St for the last meeting of 2022 which will be our Brick-wall workshop where the group will have the opportunity to discuss any problems in their family history research.

What is a brick-wall? Every family historian comes across an ancestor that they cant identify or for whom they cant find a death, marriage or birth place or date. Many researching Irish ancestors have only the vague knowledge that their person 'came from Ireland' either as family lore or on Australian records. This lack of information preventing progress for further research is known as a Brick-wall in genealogy. Hopefully a fresh pair of eyes and the combined knowledge of our enthusiastic group may possibly uncover a breakthrough in your Brickwall!

Use the Questionnaire attached here gather together what you do know about your 'Brick-wall' so the group can help with what you dont know.

Also attached are a couple of information sheets compiled by the Group with lots of links and ideas to check out to help with your Irish research.

We will be doing live look-ups during the session from Unit4 and would encourage all participants to bring along their laptops, tablets or other devices with your family history research facts. Help will be offered with search techniques and using various popular websites so if you can bring along your device for the session the better the outcome for all.
