Unwanted Certificates

“Unwanted” certificates aren’t really unwanted.  Someone wants them, just not the person who has them!  Most of us will have had the experience of ordering a certificate only to find that it is not the person for whom we are searching.  And so, for more than 40 years, members of the Society have been donating these unwanted certificates to the Librarian in the hopes that the true owners will be able to claim them. 

What a collection we have built up over that time!  More than 4,000 birth, marriage or death certificates from all over the world.  Most are full certificates, while some are either extracts or PDF copies.

You can check out the full list in our Online Shop under the category “Unwanted Certificates”.  Use the search function in the Shop to look for surnames, and if you find something interesting click into the entry to get more information about the certificate If you find one that you want, we ask you to donate $6.00 for a certificate, $5 for an extract or $4 for a PDF copy (plus postage and handling, if applicable).  We will mail the certificate to you or you can pick it up from May Street.
