After I discovered the joys of hunting around the AJCP on Trove thanks to Bevan Carter, I stumbled on the Lancashire Records Office and spotted an entry entitled "Orders for commutation of death sentences to transportation (78pp)". Now my great great great grandfather, Samuel Bradley, had been sentenced to death at Lancaster Castle in ... more3 comments Wow!! What a find. AJCP materials are rich in information but daunting to access. I can imagine the elation. Well done for persisting. Posted by Julie Martin, 03/05/2023 3:03:15 pm A fantastic find. What gets me is the superb quality of the paper - no tears or missing edges and beautifully readable. Thank you, Anne, for posting the AJCP information. In 1836 my ancestors Robert & Caroline Thomson ('Atwick,' 19 Oct 1829), felt themselves short-changed in their early land allocation. Once I had overcome the hurdles to accessing the AJCP, I learned of Robert's submissions both to the Executive Council and then the Secretary of State for Colonies seeking to have his claim for additional land recognized. It was a thrill to download the files & read them at home. Peter Mitchell Member 14712
