It was a beautiful sunny winter's day in Brisbane when I visited Lutwyche Cemetery.  I was grateful for the warm sunshine, having come over from cold, windy and wet Perth, and I enjoyed my time exploring among the graves, reading the inscriptions and simply enjoying the pleasure of a genealogist's holiday!

When you think of Manly, you get a mental image of glorious sandy beach and hundreds of holiday-makers taking in the sunshine and impressive pine trees lining a long curving esplanade behind the beach.  Or you might think about the iconic Manly ferries that have been taking Sydney-siders from the city to the beach

Last year was a wet one all over Australia.  Nationally, the rainfall was 26% above average.  In New South Wales, that figure was 55% above average.  Many areas, including the Sydney CBD, experienced unprecedented flooding.
