Mead Funeral Directors Index

Thirteen years in the making, this index of the Mead Funeral Directors records is a rich resource for FHWA members researching their family history.

The Mead collection comprises the funeral details of 22,267 people conducted by Mead Son and Company, funeral directors, between 1927 and 1994. Also included are records for Chapel Funerals from August to September 1980.

Establishing their business in Busselton, Bunbury and Leonora from 1910, Frank and son Ern, moved to Victoria Park in 1927, with a branch in East Fremantle.   Chipper and Son bought the company in 1994.

The information contained in the records is varied and extensive.  It can include family members, still births, cost of funeral and much more.

Two of our longstanding members, Margaret Hickey and later Sue Grenda undertook the long task of scanning these records as part of a joint project with the State Library of WA, which holds the original records.  The Project Team, under the leadership of Karen Lemnell and Lyn Watt, then created this index for the use of our members.
