These school holidays, families are invited to take part in hands‑on activities designed to document family history while spending time together at FamilyHistoryWA, 48 May Street, Bayswater.

Children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews will discover and record family stories, memories, names, places, and traditions — turning memories into lasting family records using FHWA’s take-home goody bag.

No prior experience with family history is needed.

All activities are age appropriate, 6–15 years, relaxed, and supported.

Children must attend with an adult family member who is prepared to share their stories.

FHWA volunteers will be available to assist.

Participants will:

  • Interview their adults using simple question prompts.
  • Note family details together (names, dates, places, events).
  • Capture stories – video, audio, or written.
  • Learn why documenting family history details is valuable.
  • Leave with a starter family history record to continue at home.

Who can come:

  • Primary and early secondary students.
  • Parents, grandparents, carers, and relatives.
  • Families wanting to preserve stories before they’re lost.

What to bring:

  • A phone, tablet or laptop for researching, recording and videoing.
  • Photos, letters, documents or small family keepsakes.

Helpful materials will be in your take-home bag.
