Make a Difference at FamilyHistoryWA’s Library
Volunteer with Purpose, Community, and Curiosity
For nearly 50 years, FamilyHistoryWA’s Library has been at the heart of family history research in Western Australia. Established in 1979 and now located at 48 May Street, Bayswater, the library continues to thrive thanks to the passion, knowledge, and generosity of its volunteers.
If you enjoy history, research, or helping others uncover their stories, this is your opportunity to be part of a welcoming and knowledgeable community.
• Volunteer Librarian
An opportunity to lead, inspire, and shape the future of the library
With the Librarian role becoming vacant in the very near future, the Management Committee is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated volunteer to step into this rewarding position. The Librarian plays a central role in ensuring the library remains a vibrant and valuable resource for members and visitors.
In this role, you will:
- Guide the selection and development of library resources
- Chair and collaborate with the Library Committee
- Liaise with key stakeholders across FamilyHistoryWA
- Support and mentor Library Volunteers, ensuring they feel confident and connected
You won’t be doing this alone. A dedicated team of volunteers supports the Librarian, working together to keep the library welcoming, well-run, and relevant.
Flexible option: This role can be shared between two volunteers, making it ideal if you’d like to contribute while balancing other commitments.
If you have a few hours to spare and would enjoy sharing (and expanding) your knowledge of family history, this could be the perfect fit.

• Library Volunteers
Share your knowledge. Learn something new. Be part of a team.
FamilyHistoryWA is also seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to join its Library Volunteer team. In this role, you’ll help members and visitors make the most of the library’s rich collection and services.
As a Library Volunteer, you may:
- Assist members and visitors with research and access to resources
- Help answer a wide range of family history–related questions
- Support day-to-day library and administrative tasks
This role is ideal if you enjoy helping others and are curious about family history research. You’ll be learning as you go, while contributing to a valued community service.
Library Volunteers work as part of a small, supportive team and are rostered according to availability. Current roster opportunities include:
- Every second Saturday, 11:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Every second Monday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
If these days do not suit, but you are still interested, still contact us as opportunities may arise on other days.
