Wed 4 December Meeting - Last one of 2024

Member Shirley Guy gave an informative presentation about her ukulele journey, one that started when she was just ten, after a neighbour in New Zealand gave her one to learn on.  After moving to Perth in 2009, a friend took her to a concert at the Perth Concert Hall to see a performance of the UK Ukulele Orchestra. At the concert, the audience was asked to hold up their ukuleles and they all joined in with the Orchestra.  This inspired Shirley to continue playing and ultimately teaching, writing and preparing music books.  She wrote these during COVID for the RAAFA in Bull Creek, the Glyde St. Community Centre in East Fremantle and Earnshaw.

Shirley entertained us with some tunes and then played some Christmas Carols. Singing was a bit sporadic this year, but Sue did a fine job of accompanying Shirley. This was followed by lunch, and time for a final chat before we finished for the year.

The individual colour groups were revamped late last year and the Feb '24 meeting concluded with members breaking into these smaller groups, with discussions that continued well after the meeting had officially finished. This section of the meeting will be held most months when we meet at May Street (Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct & Dec). Below are some of the colour groups, who were discussing their stories and aims for their writing in 2024.
